Welcome to Lannathai Koln, a delightful Thai restaurant nestled in the heart of Cologne, Germany, located at Aachener Str. 493, 50933 Koln. This hidden gem is more than just a place to dine; it’s an experience that combines a relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, and, of course, delicious Thai cuisine.
As you step into Lannathai Koln, you are greeted by a warm ambiance that feels like a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The restaurant boasts a surprisingly quiet setting, making it an ideal spot for a casual meal or a cozy dinner with friends.
One of the highlights of Lannathai Koln is the food, often praised for its freshness and vibrant flavors. Customers rave about the generous portions, with many dishes designed to satisfy even the hungriest of appetites. As Timi Borhi notes, the dishes are not only tasty but also served in ample quantities, ensuring that no one leaves feeling unsatisfied. The recommendation to try their sharing starters is a popular choice among patrons, setting the stage for a communal dining experience.
Hamish Robson articulates a sentiment echoed by many: the dishes are freshly cooked and bursting with flavor, a testament to the chefs' commitment to quality. The standout dish for those seeking a spicy kick is the Massaman-Nuah, a rich concoction of beef in coconut milk, massaman curry, potatoes, onions, and peanuts. Be warned: as Stefan Schaub suggests, this dish is not for the faint of heart when it comes to spice.
For those new to Thai cuisine, like B Angel, Lannathai Koln offers an inviting introduction to the dynamic flavors of Thailand. The Gaeng-Koua-Ped, featuring duck breast fillet in a coconut milk red curry, tantalizes the palate, although some may find the spice level a touch milder than anticipated.
While reviews may vary on the authenticity of Thai flavors found here compared to street food or local markets in Thailand, it's clear that Lannathai Koln delivers a unique dining experience in Cologne. The food is flavorful, the service is commendable, and the atmosphere is perfect for an enjoyable meal.
In essence, Lannathai Koln is a treasure for those looking to explore Thai cuisine in a relaxed setting. Eventhough I've been in Thailand before n quite familiar with their Kitchen (which is somehow similiar to Malay/Spore n Indonesians) I wouldnt be able to say that the Thai Dishes I got outside the country was 100% authentic or not. As I was in Thailand myself, I even notice that the Taste might vary, ie. Hotel/Resort, Upper Class Resto and the one you got on the street or at the local Markets. All swears their food are nothing but original Thai! What Im trying to say is, eventhough the 3 Dishes we ordered at Lannathai 2 Nites before were good, I stil cant say that they serve an absolute unbeatable original Thai, as good as the ones I got in a great Restaurant in Bangkok or what I cook at home (read: Im NO Gourmet or fine Cook). Lets say: I just try to rely on my tongue. :D More details of the 3 Dishes at our Quick Dinner: Ba-Mee-Phad Fried (egg)Noodle with your chosen Meat ( Chicken Breast, Pork or Beef) --big n very pale/colorless portion with tiny taste. The plate looks anything but appetizing. Gaeng-Koua-Ped (Medium Spicy) Duck Breast Fillet in Coconutmilk with Red Curry, Tomato, Pineapple and Litchi --if there is so called generous Portion then I have to call this one a Stingy One-even for small eater like myself. Tasted nice but not spicy enough eventhough I already asked the waiter to tell the Cook that I am somehow a hard core Chili Lover and can take up quite much. Massaman-Nuah (Very Spicy)Beef in Coconutmilk, Massaman-Curry, Potato, Onions and Peanut --the portion is even much less than the Duck. Liter of Soup/Curry and huge bunch of Slices Onions with tiny beef. The Spiciness is moderate for German Tongue n to me rather too mild. Curry tasted good. What I like most over here was the Ambient- warm n less kitschy :D Oh, the service wasnt bad at all. In between I visited this place 2-3 already

Great restaurant, food is good. You must be careful if you order something spicy because it is really spicy
